June 11, 2020, marked a crucial night for Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru as she met with former Prime Minister Raila Odinga at a high-end club in Karen in a desperate bid to save her job.
Waiguru, who has been handed a vote of no confidence by the County MCAs, is now relying on Raila's influence to defeat the impeachment motion in the Senate.
According to Daily Nation, the meeting, which lasted over two hours, was attended by Kiambu Governor James Nyoro and Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga.
Waiguru's fate now hangs in the balance as the Senate prepares to debate the impeachment motion, which was confirmed by Speaker Kenneth Lusaka on June 10.
Waiguru's allies, including the Kieleweke wing of Jubilee Party, are confident that they can defeat the motion, but critics argue that the impeachment is a result of Waiguru's own actions, including allegations of misappropriating public funds.
Laikipia Woman Representative Catherine Waruguru, a fierce supporter of Deputy President William Ruto, has also met with Raila at his Capitol Hill office, sparking speculation about the role of Raila's office in the impeachment process.
