On June 11, Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru met with former Prime Minister Raila Odinga at a fancy club in Karen, in a bid to save her job from an impeachment motion at the Senate.
According to a report by Kenyan Bulletin, Waiguru was confident that the Kieleweke wing of the Jubilee Party would defeat her impeachment motion, and she had also reached out to several Jubilee Party allies for support.
Waiguru arrived at the meeting a few minutes before 7 p.m. and was joined by Raila a few minutes later. The meeting lasted for over two hours, ending shortly past 9 p.m.
Also in attendance were Kiambu Governor James Nyoro and Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga.
“It is not rocket science what the meeting was about. She wants to be saved at the Senate. He (Raila) was with his close allies and I don’t need to name names,” stated a source.
Waiguru's fate now lies in the hands of the Senate, after Speaker Kenneth Lusaka confirmed receiving her impeachment resolution on June 10.
