On June 12, 2020, Fox News faced criticism for using a digitally altered image in its coverage of Seattle's protests. The image, which showed a man armed with a rifle standing in front of a shattered storefront, was a combination of several different photos taken over nearly two weeks.
According to The Seattle Times, the image was created by combining photos from Getty Images. Fox News removed the image after inquiries from The Seattle Times.
Additionally, Fox News posted a nighttime photo of a burning storefront and car, accompanied by the headline 'Crazy Town' and a list of articles on the unrest in Seattle. However, this image was taken in St. Paul, Minnesota, not Seattle.
After being called out for the error, Fox News removed the image and issued an editor's note apologizing for the mistake. The note stated that the image was a 'collage' that 'did not clearly delineate between these images, and has since been replaced.'
President Trump has also weighed in on the Seattle protests, calling on local officials to take action. In a series of tweets, he referred to the protesters as 'Domestic Terrorists' and urged them to 'take back your city NOW.'
