On June 13, 2020, Senator Kipchumba Murkomen made a statement that has sparked debate in the Kenyan political scene. The former Majority Leader and Elgeyo Marakwet Senator expressed his views on the fate of impeached Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru.
Murkomen stated that if the government wants to save Waiguru, it will do so, regardless of the facts. He claimed that a few senators will make some noise, but it will not stop the plans of saving the Kirinyaga Governor.
According to Murkomen, if the government and Capitol Hill dry cleaners combine forces, the Senate will do nothing. He tweeted, 'If Govt wants to save Waiguru regardless of the facts, then she will be saved. If govt & Capitol Hill dry cleaners combine forces then Senate will do NOTHING. A few of us will make some noise, quote the Constitution & our DC will rule us out of order & declare her Mweupe kama pamba.'
Murkomen's remarks come after word that Waiguru met ODM leader Raila Odinga on Friday night, just hours after being impeached by Kirinyaga County MCAs. The meeting, which took place at a location in Karen, was also attended by two senior Jubilee Party officials and a prominent figure from the Office of the President.
