On June 11, 2020, Somalia's Ministry of Health announced that the country had reached a total of 2,500 coronavirus cases.

During a media briefing, Dr. Fawzia Abikar Nur stated that 61 new positive cases were reported over the last 48 hours, with 25 cases from Somaliland, eight from Galgaduud, five from Puntland, and two from Jubbaland. Additionally, 13 cases were reported in the Banadir region.

Dr. Nur noted that 532 infected individuals had recovered from the virus, which is a positive development in the country's fight against the pandemic.

Meanwhile, the South West State of Somalia (SWSS) has announced plans to reopen schools by next month. SWSS President Abdiaziz Mohamed Laftagaren stated that schools have been closed since April 19 and that his government is working with stakeholders to reduce the effects of the pandemic and reopen educational centers.

Similarly, the Puntland State has indicated its plans to reopen Quran (Madrasa) schools in Northeastern Somalia. However, the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) has not yet announced a timeline for reopening educational institutions that were closed in April to control the spread of the virus.
