On June 13, 2020, a heated dispute erupted between the Supreme Council of Muslims (Supkem) and a group of travel agents over allegations of misappropriation of funds.

The Association of Hajj and Umrah Kenya, a travel agency that arranges pilgrims' travel to Saudi Arabia, wrote to the Director of Public Prosecutions Noordin Haji to investigate Supkem chairman Hassan ole Naado.

The agency accused Mr. Naado of misusing funds paid through agents to arrange pilgrims' travel to Saudi Arabia.

According to the association's chairman, Sheik Ali Gure, the funds collected from pilgrims by agents are deposited into Supkem's account.

Mr. Gure challenged Mr. Naado to explain how funds were mismanaged by the council under his watch.

Mr. Naado, however, denied being investigated by the DCI over loss of funds, stating that investigations into the Hajj accounts of the Supreme Council of Kenya Muslims for 2017-2018 were conducted before he took office.

He also accused bogus travel agents of swindling Supkem through fake documents from the bank.
