June 13, 2020, marked a somber milestone in Kenya's fight against COVID-19, with the death toll reaching 100. The country also recorded 57 new recoveries, bringing the total number of people out of hospital to 1,221.
Dr. Rashid Aman, Chief Administrative Secretary at the Ministry of Health, expressed condolences to the families of those who lost their lives to the virus. He emphasized the importance of observing measures to prevent the spread of the virus, despite the challenges and sacrifices it entails.
Kenya has implemented tough restrictions since March, including a night curfew and movement restrictions in certain counties. The country has also closed bars and restricted the operation of restaurants to between 4 am and 5 pm.
According to the Ministry of Health statistics, the virus has been confirmed in 38 counties out of 47. Dr. Aman warned that it is only a matter of time before the disease spreads to all 47 counties.
The national government has disbursed Sh5 billion to equip hospitals and prepare for the peak of infections, with an initial target of at least 300 isolation beds.
