On June 12, 2020, the Communications Authority of Kenya issued a warning to public service vehicles operating as courier service providers without licenses.

According to the Authority, the number of courier service providers has surged since the country was hit by the coronavirus, with many PSVs turning to cargo carrying to remain afloat after the restriction of movement into and out of Nairobi.

However, the CA acting director-general Mercy Wanjau stated that this is illegal, and any person caught delivering services illegally will be charged in accordance with Section 49 of the authorities Act.

Ms Wanjau urged members of the public to demand a valid compliance certificate when seeking services, warning that those found guilty could face a fine not exceeding Sh300,000 or imprisonment for a term not exceeding one year or both.
