As the world continues to grapple with the aftermath of George Floyd's death, the English Premier League has announced a powerful statement of unity against racism. From next week, players' names on their jerseys will be replaced with the iconic 'Black Lives Matter' slogan.

This move comes in the wake of two weeks of global protests, sparked by the tragic death of George Floyd, a black man killed by a white policeman in Minneapolis, USA. The protests have spread across the globe, with many countries experiencing widespread demonstrations.

Colin Kaepernick, an NFL quarterback, was the first sports personality to popularise the 'take a knee' gesture, which has since become a symbol of solidarity against racism. The Bundesliga has also shown its support, with players like Jadon Sancho taking a knee during matches.

As the Premier League returns, players will not only wear the 'Black Lives Matter' slogan on their shirts but also have the option to 'take a knee' before kickoff. The league has confirmed its support for this gesture, which has become a powerful symbol of resistance against racism.

Players have released a statement expressing their solidarity with the movement, saying: 'We, the Players, stand together with the singular objective of eradicating racial prejudice wherever it exists, to bring about a global society of inclusion, respect, and equal opportunities for All, regardless of their colour or creed.'
