On the night of June 9, 2020, Benard Makori Magare, a resident of Nyanko village in Kegati, Kisii county, was allegedly attacked by a huge cat wearing a red tie on its neck and a white one on its abdomen.

Magare claimed he was asleep when he was woken up by someone kicking him on the head and legs. He initially thought it was a dream, but the kicks continued, prompting him to wake up and investigate.

He then called his pastor and prayed over the phone before being advised to go back to sleep. However, the noise persisted, and Magare decided to take action.

Armed with a panga, he confronted the cat, which was standing on his cupboard, roaring and preparing to pounce. Magare managed to dodge the cat's attack and launched a counterattack, but his panga kept bouncing off the animal's fur.

It was only when another pastor arrived and prayed that the cat was finally killed. The villagers, including the area chief and Nyumba Kumi elders, gathered to witness the bizarre incident, but the cat's owner remained unknown.

Magare recounted the ordeal, saying, "I took my panga and went to the sitting room, I found a very huge animal standing on my cupboard, it was so huge in the size of a leopard. Then it roared so dangerously and that is when I realized I was in danger."
