On June 13, 2020, a remarkable milestone was achieved in the United States when two Ghanaian-Americans, Cynthia Kudji and her daughter Jasmine, graduated from medical school and began working at LSU Health in Louisiana.
What makes their achievement even more remarkable is that they are the first mother-daughter duo to attend medical school at the same time and be posted to the same hospital.
Cynthia, born in Kenyasi, Ghana, and Jasmine have already been working on the front line of the Covid-19 pandemic, making a significant impact in their community.
According to Cynthia, working with her daughter has been a 'dream come true', a sentiment shared by Jasmine, who hopes their experience will inspire others to pursue careers in medicine.
‘I feel so proud to have gone through this journey with my mum – to inspire other women and other people of colour to do the same thing,' Jasmine told the BBC Focus on Africa presenter Bola Mosuro.
As they continue their medical journey, Jasmine expressed her excitement to 'continue on this journey' and make a positive impact in the lives of their patients.
