On Saturday morning, a police chopper, an Agusta Westland AW119, crashed in Kaithe, Meru County, while en route to Sololo for a security meeting.

The chopper, which was being flown by Police Airwing Pilot John Kemboi, had taken off from Embu just minutes before the crash.

According to eyewitnesses, the chopper came down on trees, and the injured were rushed to a local hospital in stable condition.

Police Airwing Commandant Col (Rtd) Rodgers Mbithi, who was also on a separate chopper, confirmed that the pilot and others on board were stable and receiving treatment.

Investigations into the incident have been launched, and it is not clear if the meeting will proceed as planned.

Locals reported that there were six people on board the chopper, including the pilot.
