On June 12, a gruesome incident shook the quiet town of Joska in Matungulu Constituency, Machakos County. A 33-year-old man, a boda boda operator, was arrested for allegedly killing his 26-year-old wife and 11-year-old son.
According to eyewitnesses, the suspect was seen loading a black 50-litre drum onto his motorbike, which contained the severed head of his 11-year-old son. When he ignited the engine to take off, the head fell off the container, revealing the horrific crime.
Neighbours, shocked by the sight, rushed to the scene and filed a report at the nearby KBC Police Station in Matungulu. Law enforcement officers, who arrived at the suspect's home, broke down his door and discovered the body of the 26-year-old wife, who had deep cuts inflicted to her head.
Matungulu OCPD Kipkemoi Kirui told K24 Digital that the suspect had planned to bury his son's body, but the boy's head fell off the drum, prompting him to flee into his house. The suspect was arrested and the bodies of the mother and son were moved to Kangundo Level 4 Hospital morgue.
Investigations into the murders are ongoing, and the suspect will soon be arraigned in court. The reasons behind the killings remain unclear, according to police.
