The Ministry of Health in Kenya has introduced a home-based care programme to decongest hospitals and prevent them from being overwhelmed by the increasing number of Covid-19 cases.

On Friday, 288 patients were released to receive care from home, including 15 mothers who are breastfeeding their infants.

Head of Public Health Dr Francis Kuria emphasized that these patients are safe and should not be stigmatized, saying, “They are safe, and there is no need for stigmatization they are as good as you are.”

The home-based care programme aims to leave room in hospitals for critical cases, and the Ministry of Health has developed guidelines for Covid-19 patients to follow while receiving care from home, which are available on the ministry's website.
