On a fateful Friday night in San Antonio, a man's rage turned deadly after he was turned away from a bar due to intoxication.
According to San Antonio Police Chief William McManus, the incident unfolded around 11:30 p.m. at Rebar, a bar in the city's North Central neighborhood. The man, who was accompanied by three or four friends, became belligerent after being denied entry.
Chief McManus recounted the man's outburst, saying, 'Don't you know who I am? I'm a U.F.C. fighter from California.' The man then walked back to his car, pulled out a long rifle, and opened fire across the street, striking five women and three men between the ages of 23 and 41.
Fortunately, none of the injuries were life-threatening, with the most seriously wounded victim shot in the back. The gunman and his friends fled the scene before officers arrived, leaving the police to search for them early Saturday.
It's worth noting that Texas bars had reopened on May 22 as part of the state's coronavirus recovery plan, with safety guidelines in place, including social distancing requirements.
