On June 13, 2020, a shocking revelation emerged about Deputy President William Ruto's plan to secure the presidency, potentially at the expense of President Uhuru Kenyatta and Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga.
According to sources, Ruto is quietly working behind the scenes to craft a new super alliance that could see him achieve his presidential ambitions.
Mumias East Member of Parliament Benjamin Washiali revealed that Ruto is considering a possible alliance with Amani National Congress leader Musalia Mudavadi ahead of the 2022 elections.
While the details of the planned deal remain scarce, there are high chances that Ruto would bury his presidential ambitions and support Mudavadi in the President Kenyatta succession race.
Washiali emphasized that with Mudavadi enjoying a huge following in the Western region, the alliance between Ruto and Mudavadi could deliver the presidency.
“Since Musalia has an advantage in Western and Ruto has an advantage in other areas, why can’t they combine forces? It doesn’t matter who becomes the President and who doesn’t. When working as a team, everyone’s ideas will be brought on board,” Washiali stated.
