On June 13, 2020, Safaricom and Google announced a partnership to offer competitive daily data bundles to subscribers seeking to access YouTube content.

The new daily bundle will offer 80 MBs for use on YouTube, equivalent to up to 30 minutes of standard definition streaming and up to an hour of low definition streaming. This offer is available until August 13, 2020.

According to Safaricom Chief Customer Officer Sylvia Mulinge, "More Kenyans are increasingly turning to video consumption on the Internet, with music, comedy, news and sports emerging as the most popular online video content in the country."

As more Kenyans shift to working from home and relying on digital platforms, this offer aims to provide affordable access to a new world of content from the comfort of their phones.

"Through this proposition, we want to leverage our extensive 4G coverage to ensure that customers who could not previously enjoy the power of the internet can access a new world of content in an affordable manner," said Safaricom CEO, Peter Ndegwa.

Google's Director of Android and Platforms Partnerships for Africa, Mariam Abdullahi, added, "This partnership will provide subscribers to watch their favourite shows, listen to music, learn a skill or develop their passion without the hassle of thinking of their data."
