Kenyans Join Vogue Global Challenge ¶
As the world grappled with the aftermath of George Floyd's killing by a white policeman in Minneapolis, the editor-in-chief of Vogue magazine, Anna Wintour, apologized for not giving enough space to black designers in the publication.
Her apology sparked an online movement, with people of color recreating the cover of Vogue magazine with their own photos, using the hashtag #VogueChallenge.
Netizens from all over Africa joined the challenge, showcasing their creative talents and calling for greater representation in the fashion industry.
One of the participants, Patricia Mbela, a Kenyan fashion designer, recreated the cover of Vogue magazine with her own design, Poisa, and shared it on Twitter.
Another participant, Mideluzzyilori, shared a message of love and solidarity from Africa, using the hashtag #VogueChallenge.
The #VogueChallenge has sparked a global conversation about representation and diversity in the fashion industry, with many calling for the creation of a Vogue Africa edition.
As the challenge continues to gain momentum, it remains to be seen what impact it will have on the fashion industry and the representation of people of color in the media.
