On June 13, 2020, Elgeyo Marakwet County signed a partnership deal with One Acre Fund to provide farmers with affordable farm inputs.

Under the agreement, One Acre Fund will deliver farm inputs, including planting and top dressing fertilizers and certified maize seeds, to farmers' homes at market rates.

County Governor Alex Tolgos urged farmers to take advantage of the partnership and increase production, citing high production costs as a major challenge.

“Farmers often delay planting crops due to lack of money to buy farm inputs. High cost of production has been a major challenge to many farmers,” Mr Tolgos said during the signing of the partnership agreement.

He noted that One Acre Fund had been working with the county's Agriculture department on a pilot basis and urged the organization to extend its services across all wards in the county.

“Once they start using fertiliser, crop production will double and food security will increase,” Governor Tolgos said.
