Kenyan Premier League (KPL) clubs are in limbo as they wait to learn the fate of the league, which has been marred by controversy and disputes between Football Kenya Federation (FKF) and KPL.

On June 13, 2020, the Sports Disputes Tribunal (SDT) announced that it would take three weeks to make a ruling on the matter, with a decision expected on June 30.

The dispute centers around FKF's decision to nullify the KPL and declare Gor Mahia champions, which KPL and Chemelil Sugar claim is unlawful. The two parties argue that FKF had no authority to cancel the league or declare a champion, as the federation's National Executive Council and the term of office of its president, Nick Mwendwa, ended on February 10, 2020.

SDT chairman John Ohaga has extended an exparte order setting aside FKF's decision, pending the tribunal's ruling. The order has effectively put on hold FKF's decision to end the season and declare Gor Mahia champions.

Chemelil Sugar, which was relegated to the Super League as a result of FKF's decision, has also invited the tribunal to determine the validity of the 2015 FKF-KPL agreement and its impact on the league.
