Published on June 13, 2020, Treasury Cabinet Secretary Ukur Yatani introduced a voluntary disclosure programme to allow Kenyans to correct tax returns omissions without penalty.

The programme, which will run for three years, aims to improve tax compliance and is open to individuals who have made omissions in their tax returns over the last five years.

According to Yatani, those who take advantage of the programme will be granted relief from penalties and interest on the tax disclosed after payment of the principal tax.

The amendment of the Tax Procedure Act is aimed at enhancing tax revenue collection by the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) through improved tax administration and compliance.

Yatani made the announcement when reading the Budget on Thursday.
