On Thursday, Treasury Cabinet Secretary Ukur Yatani delivered the Budget speech, announcing a substantial increase in funding for sports.
With a new allocation of Sh14 billion, the Sports, Arts and Social Development Fund has seen a 150% increase from last year's Sh5.3 billion.
According to Mr Yatani, sports, culture, and the arts play a vital role in the country's economic development by creating jobs for young people.
As Kenya prepares to host major global competitions within the next year, the increased allocation will undoubtedly boost planning efforts.
Additionally, the bigger pot will benefit artists, who have already been granted Sh100 million.
With the Treasury's increased funding for sports, there should be no excuse for not completing stadium works, such as those at Eldoret's Kip Keino Stadium and Iten's Kamariny Stadium.
Furthermore, we hope to see pending salaries and other bills settled at the cash-strapped secretariats of the WRC Safari Rally and World Under-20 Athletics Championships, which are crucial for attracting touristic inflows.
