On April 30, 2020, Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) announced the departure of national Sevens coach Paul Feeney, who had been doubling as the union's Technical Director.

According to KRU, Feeney left the role due to the uncertainty surrounding the Covid-19 situation and the need to be with his family in New Zealand.

Feeney's tenure saw the Kenya Sevens team, Shujaa, win the 2019 Rugby Africa Men's Sevens in Johannesburg, South Africa, securing qualification for the Tokyo Olympic Games, which were later moved to 2021.

Under Feeney's guidance, the Kenya Morans also reached the cup final at the 2019 Tusker Safari Sevens.

The process to fill the vacancy arising from Feeney's departure is currently ongoing.
