Published on June 12, 2020, the Sports Disputes Tribunal (SDT) has set June 30 as the date for ruling in a case that could significantly impact the fate of the 2019/20 Kenyan Premier League (KPL) season.
The case pits KPL and Chemelil Sugar against Football Kenya Federation (FKF) over FKF's decision to end the 2019/20 top tier season.
During a Zoom session moderated by SDT Chairperson John Ohaga, advocates representing KPL, FKF, and other interested parties made their oral submissions virtually.
Interestingly, several KPL clubs, including Tusker, Zoo, Western Stima, Kariobangi Sharks, Ulinzi Stars, KCB, and Kisumu AllStars, have jointly opposed the case submitted by KPL and Chemelil.
However, SDT Chairperson John Ohaga allowed both Amos Otieno Akoth, representing KPL, and sports journalist Milton Nyakundi, representing Kakamega Homeboyz, to present their submissions, despite objections from Japheth Munyendo, who argued that Nyakundi was not a registered lawyer and lacked the authority to represent any party.
