On June 11, a senseless tragedy unfolded in Kikuyu, Kiambu County, when a 16-year-old boy allegedly stabbed his 2-year-old nephew to death.
The teenager, who hails from Ndeiya Ward in Kikuyu Constituency, had been left to take care of the child while his sister, who is in her early 30s, went to work.
According to police, the suspect stabbed the little boy four times in the chest, leaving him dead.
The deceased's mother, who does menial work for a living, returned home in the evening to find her child covered as 'he slept' on his bed.
After waiting for nearly two hours for her son to wake up, she grew anxious and went over to his bed, where she discovered the boy had four stab wounds in the chest and was already dead.
Police found the suspect stranded on Kikuyu Town streets the next morning and arrested him, taking him to Kikuyu Police Station, where he is being held in custody.
Kikuyu OCPD Kutumi Mutarani confirmed the incident, saying the minor will be arraigned once investigations into the incident are concluded.
'We are yet to establish why the suspect fatally stabbed his nephew,' said Mutarani.
