On a typical day, Eunice Sophia Crown, a pastor's wife and co-founder of Global Exploits Ministries International (GEMI) in Thika, would be juggling multiple responsibilities. However, since the government's directive to ban social gatherings due to COVID-19, her role has shifted greatly.

"In the past two months, I have had a lot of time to bond with my family. It feels weird," she says. "As a pastor's wife, my biggest struggle has been time. I yearn for more time with my husband and our two-year-old son."

Before the pandemic, Crown's days were filled with church activities, but now she is keeping in touch with their members through digital platforms like Facebook Live, WhatsApp Groups, and Zoom. While this has been a challenge, she misses the physical connection with her congregation.

"I miss holding hands with other believers when praying and singing our hearts out during the praise and worship session," she says.

As a pastor's wife, Crown has had to navigate the expectations and criticism that come with this role. She has come across posts on social media expressing disappointment in pastors' wives, who are expected to be perfect and actively present in the lives of their church members.

"There's an unspoken belief among some people that if it's not on social media, it's not happening," she notes.

Despite the challenges, Crown remains committed to her role and is grateful for the opportunity to serve her congregation. She encourages women who are considering marrying a gospel minister to understand the unique sacrifices that come with this role.

"It is a sacrifice. One that is messy and fulfilling at the same time," she says.
