On June 12, 2020, the Judiciary issued a statement urging the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) to investigate banners erected along major roads in Nairobi maligning Chief Justice David Maraga.

The banners, displayed on footbridges in most parts of Nairobi, threatened to expose purported underhand dealings by the Chief Justice, indicating a 'vicious fight' against Maraga and the Judiciary was about to begin.

The Judiciary appealed to the Inspector General of Police, the DCI, and other authorities to investigate and punish those responsible for the banners.

They also asked the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) and Nairobi County government to ensure that public spaces are not used for criminal activities.

These attacks, the Judiciary said, were meant to threaten and intimidate the Judiciary, but would not deter them from discharging their core mandate of dispensing justice in a fair, just, and independent manner.
