COVID-19 Death Toll Rises to 96 in Kenya

Kenya's Ministry of Health reported a significant increase in COVID-19 cases on June 12, 2020, with 90 new infections bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 3,305 since March.

The country's coronavirus death toll rose to 96 after 4 more patients succumbed to the virus within a period of 24 hours, with a case fatality rate of 2.9 per cent, down from April's average 3.4 per cent.

Health Chief Administrative Secretary Rashid Aman stated that all those who tested positive were Kenyans, with 2,419 samples analyzed.

The new cases comprised 62 males and 28 females, with the youngest being 14 years old and the oldest 80 years old.

The cases were distributed across various counties, including Nairobi (36), Mombasa (34), Busia (12), Uasin Gishu (3), Kilifi (1), Garissa (1), Meru (1), and Turkana (1).

Of the new cases in Nairobi, 12 were reported in Kibera, 5 in Makadara, 5 in Mathare, and 4 in Kamukunji.

Additionally, 72 more patients had been discharged after having fully recovered, raising the total number of recoveries to 1,164.

As of June 12, 2020, Kenya had tested a total of 108,666 samples.
