Published on June 12, 2020, reports have emerged that Deputy President William Ruto is secretly reaching out to ODM leader Raila Odinga for a meeting.
According to sources, former Majority Leader in the Senate Kipchumba Murkomen met with leaders from Raila Odinga's camp for almost two hours on Thursday night at a location in Karen.
"The two can still work together, there are no permanent enemies in politics. Raila and Ruto are an exception," said one of the senior officials from DP Ruto's office.
Despite their long-standing political rivalry, which dates back to 2009 when Odinga was the Prime Minister and Ruto the then Agriculture Minister, the relationship between the two has taken a surprising turn.
The handshake between Raila and President Uhuru Kenyatta has further complicated their relationship, but it appears that Ruto is now willing to put aside their differences and work together with Odinga.
Only time will tell if this new development will lead to a significant shift in Kenya's political landscape.
