Published on June 12, 2020, a dramatic scene unfolded in East Kolwa, Kisumu county, as mourners refused to let the burial of Ohangla musician Abenny Jachiga proceed in peace.

The angry crowd, estimated to be in thousands, stormed the grave site, filling it with soil and tree branches while wailing in grief.

According to reports, the mourners were disappointed by the lack of time given to them to mourn their beloved musician.

Abenny Jachiga, whose real name was Bernard Onyango Obonyo, passed away on Thursday after a short illness at St Jairus Private Hospital.

Thousands of mourners had trekked over 20km to the artist's home, braving heavy police presence to force their way into the compound and disrupt burial arrangements.

The drama comes a day after thousands of mourners thronged Kisumu's Port Florence Hospital to try and view the body of the departed Ohangla maestro.
