Published on June 12, 2020, Formula One announced the cancellation of the Azerbaijan, Singapore, and Japanese Grands Prix due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

The decision was made in collaboration with the promoters in Azerbaijan, Singapore, and Japan, citing the long lead times required to construct the street circuits in Singapore and Azerbaijan as a major factor in the cancellation.

Formula One had already cancelled four other races, including the Monaco Grand Prix in May, and published a revised and shortened provisional schedule set to start in Austria on July 5.

Despite the cancellations, Formula One remains hopeful of hosting 15-18 races this season, with the possibility of adding new circuits to the provisional calendar.
