June 12, 2020 - The leadership crisis in Ford Kenya has deepened after the Political Parties Registrar, Anne Nderitu, withdrew a gazette notice that had confirmed changes in the party's leadership.
The move comes after a two-week period of turmoil in the party, which was sparked by a coup that ousted Moses Wetangula as party leader.
Dr. Eseli Simiyu, the party's Secretary General, had led the coup that installed Kanduyi MP Wafula Wamunyinyi as the new party leader.
However, Wetangula quickly dismissed his ouster and suspended Dr. Simiyu and Wamunyinyi from the party in a bid to regain control.
ODM leader Raila Odinga and COTU boss Francis Atwoli were also dragged into the leadership wrangles at one point.
Wetangula's ouster was confirmed by Nderitu in a special gazette notice on June 8, but he moved to court to stop the take-over of the party.
With the gazette notice withdrawn, the Bungoma Senator can breathe a sigh of relief, but the party's Disciplinary Committee is still in the process of starting disciplinary action against Dr. Simiyu and Wamunyinyi.
