On June 12, 2020, MultiChoice announced a groundbreaking partnership with Netflix and Amazon, enabling DSTV users to access these popular streaming services through their decoders.

This innovative deal is set to retain most of DSTV's clientele, who have been drawn to the popularity of the newest streaming services.

As part of the agreement, MultiChoice will earn commissions from Netflix and Amazon subscriptions, while also allowing its subscribers to access a wider range of content.

According to MultiChoice Chief Executive Officer, Tim Jacobs, the company will receive a commission on the revenue generated by customers coming from their platform.

With this partnership, MultiChoice aims to capture the streaming media audience and grow its linear business, while also enhancing its product ecosystem by providing access to a variety of content.

Currently, MultiChoice operates streaming services via Showmax and DSTV Now, which have seen a 39% increase in user base year over year.

The addition of Netflix and Amazon is expected to diversify the local content on Showmax, with little overlap between the content on Showmax and the services offered by Netflix and Amazon.

The news of the partnership was well received, resulting in a 8.5% increase in the company's share price, the highest in 4 months.
