On June 10, 2020, Lamu principal magistrate Allan Temba granted detectives 30 days to finalize their investigation into the suspected murder of Keroche heiress Tecra Muigai's boyfriend, Omar Lali.

Tecra Muigai, the strategy and innovations director at Keroche Breweries, died on May 2, 2020, after sustaining injuries from a fall down a flight of stairs in a house she shared with Lali in Shella town.

According to Lali, Tecra fell down the stairs and hurt her head, but a post-mortem conducted by chief government pathologist Johansen Oduor revealed that Tecra died as a result of trauma to the left side of her face consistent with a fall.

Lali, 54, was arrested on May 3, 2020, and remained in detention for close to a month before he was released on Sh300,000 bond and two sureties provided by his mother and brother-in-law on May 27.

During a live video link session, Lali's legal team agreed with the Director of Public Prosecutions and the DCI to give the detectives a month to finalize their investigations, and Lali will not be detained during this period.
