On June 12, 2020, a sh1.5 million pit latrine at the Kabatini Ward Administration offices in Nakuru County collapsed just hours before its official launch.
The pit latrine, constructed by Carofa Enterprises, was a four-door facility that was meant to serve the community.
However, the construction of the latrine was marred by allegations of a dubious tender process, with some officials suggesting that cartels within the county government may have colluded with rogue contractors to steal taxpayers' money.
According to Kabatini Ward MCA Peter Macharia, the collapse of the latrine was a result of poor quality building materials and poor workmanship.
‘We thank God the latrine hadn’t been launched for use, otherwise we’d be talking of a tragedy now’’, Macharia lamented.
