Nairobi residents woke up to a surprise on Thursday morning, with banners plastered on various parts of the city warning of an impending expose on Chief Justice David Maraga.
The banners, which were put up on vantage positions overnight, are the latest in a series of attacks on the CJ following his scathing criticism of President Uhuru Kenyatta's handling of the judiciary.
Just days after Justice Maraga openly differed with President Kenyatta over the appointment of judges, the banners have sparked a new wave of tension between the judiciary and the executive.
It remains unclear who was behind the banners, but the move is seen as a response to CJ Maraga's allegations that President Kenyatta has refused to appoint 41 judges vetted by the Judiciary Service Commission.
According to CJ Maraga, the executive has also ignored court orders and publicly disrespected the Judiciary, including the eviction of over 1,000 residents from Kariobangi in violation of a court order.
This is not the first time the Judiciary has been targeted with banners in Nairobi. In January 2020, similar banners were put up demanding a corruption-free judiciary.
