Formula One's 2020 season has been hit with another blow as the Singapore, Japan, and Azerbaijan grands prix were cancelled on June 12, 2020 due to logistical problems caused by the coronavirus.
The decision was made by Formula One officials in collaboration with their promoters in the respective countries.
According to a Formula One statement, the cancellation was a result of the ongoing challenges presented by Covid-19, which made it impossible to host the events during a period of uncertainty.
Specifically, the long lead times required to construct street circuits in Singapore and Azerbaijan made it impossible to host the events, while ongoing travel restrictions in Japan also led to the decision not to proceed with the race.
This year's races in Australia, Monaco, France, and the Netherlands have already been cancelled, leaving the season to start with two races behind closed doors in Austria in July, followed by six other grands prix in Europe.
