Published on June 12, 2020, the 2020/21 National Budget allocated KSh 128.3 Billion to the 'Big 4' Agenda projects, a substantial decrease from the KSh 450.9 Billion allocated in the previous year's budget and KSh 400 Billion in the 2018/19 budget.
The 'Big 4' Agenda focuses on four key areas: food security, manufacturing, affordable universal healthcare, and affordable housing.
According to the Presidential Strategic Communications Unit (PSCU), the rollout of Big 4 Agenda programs on universal health coverage, affordable housing, manufacturing, and food security is ongoing, with progress being made in these areas.
At the 8th National and County Governments Co-ordination Summit in February, the implementation progress of Big 4 Agenda aligned programs was discussed.
Notably, the Government received the first 228 complete housing units out of the 1,370 under construction at the Park Road Project in Nairobi at the start of this year.
The Housing Pillar aims to build at least 500,000 new homes by 2022, with the second and third phases of the project set to be completed by December 2020.
Additionally, the Government launched the Universal Health Coverage (UHC) program, targeting to provide all 47 million citizens with affordable healthcare by 2022.
However, challenges persist in the 'Big 4' Agenda, particularly in the areas of food security and manufacturing, with up to 10 million Kenyans estimated to be food insecure and the COVID-19 pandemic affecting businesses.
