Kenyan actor Pete Openda, celebrated for his acting skills in TV shows like Changing Times and Arnold & Bundi, has passed away after a long battle with cancer.
According to sources, his death was confirmed over the weekend, just days after he celebrated his birthday.
On his birthday, Openda had expressed gratitude to his family and friends, saying, "Many thanks for all the birthday wishes, I am truly honoured to have you all as friends and family. God Bless," in a heartfelt post.
With a background in business administration from Oxford University and Durham University Business School, Openda's career spanned acting, directing, and radio presenting, including a stint at Kenya Broadcasting Services (KBC) where he hosted a jazz hour show.
Philippe Bresson, director of Insignia, who worked with Openda on several projects, remembered him as a hardworking and talented actor who executed his roles excellently.
"I am heartbroken. I remember we met him at a restaurant and we were like, 'we have been watching your expressions, we think you can act'. He was right in the middle of lunch with a client and had never thought of acting," Bresson recalled.
Friends and family were left shocked by the news of his passing, with many taking to social media to express their condolences.
