On June 11, 2020, President Museveni accused Makerere University laboratory of faking Covid-19 test results, sparking a heated debate.

According to the President, some of the 679 confirmed cases were classified as positive when they were not, due to work overload at the laboratory.

Prof Moses Joloba, the head of Makerere laboratory, denied the allegations, stating that the issues were institutional and that the lab would respond formally to the President's accusations.

Before the President's complaint, Daily Monitor received complaints from patients who were affected by suspected wrong results.

A patient who was admitted to Gulu Regional Referral Hospital after testing positive for coronavirus a week ago, received a text message on Monday saying he was negative again and was discharged.

The Ministry of Health promised to address the matter on June 12, 2020.
