On June 10, 2020, Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru's bid to nullify her ouster hit a snag after the High Court declined to intervene.
Justice Weldon Korir ruled that the Kirinyaga ward representatives did not violate any court order, effectively dismissing Waiguru's application to stop the impeachment process.
Waiguru had moved to court on June 10, 2020, to stop the impeachment process against her, arguing that the ward representatives acted in contempt of court orders in voting to remove her from office.
She cited a previous court order that temporarily stopped local leaders from debating the motion due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
However, the court ruled that the ward representatives were not in contempt of court, paving the way for Waiguru's ouster to stand.
