La Liga resumed on June 11, 2020, with Sevilla beating local rivals Real Betis 2-0 in a match played behind closed doors at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan stadium in Seville, Spain.

The match marked the second major European league to resume play after the Bundesliga in Germany restarted on May 16, 2020.

La Liga president Javier Tebas had indicated that 10 or 15 percent of fans could attend stadiums before the season finishes on July 19, 2020.

Sevilla's Lucas Ocampos scored a penalty in the 56th minute, and Fernando Reges added the second goal six minutes later, securing a comfortable win for the home side.

The match was the first in Spain's top flight since March 10, 2020, and offered further encouragement to the Premier League in England and Serie A in Italy, which are set to return next week.

Both coaches made use of their new allocation of five substitutes, and there were drinks breaks in each half, but the contest lost its fluency late on.

Victory strengthens Sevilla's hold on third place, moving them four points above Getafe and Real Sociedad below them, while Betis sit 12th and face the possibility of being dragged into a relegation battle.
