Kenya's entertainment industry has lost Ohangla musician Bernard Onyango, known as Abenny Jachiga, who died at St. Jairus Hospital on June 11, 2020.

Onyango, 33, had been feeling unwell since June 5, after a trip to Nairobi, and was admitted to St. Jairus Hospital on June 10. Health officials have launched investigations and taken samples from the body to establish the cause of death.

According to his brother Austin Omondi, Onyango had traveled back to Kisumu from Nairobi on June 6, despite the lockdown in Nairobi. He was first admitted to a local hospital and later transferred to St Elizabeth Hospital in Chiga, where he was taken home on a Monday and attended to by a private doctor.

Onyango was later rushed to St Jairus Hospital, where he died after developing breathing complications at 2am. His brother described him as outgoing and forgiving, saying he was a good person who would forgive very quickly.

Onyango had a successful music career, releasing hit songs like 'Kasinde' in mid-2018 and mentoring several artistes and instrumentalists. He is survived by a widow and five children.

Yesterday, the police used teargas canisters to disperse several Ohangla fans who wanted to view the musician's body at Port Florence Hospital in Otonglo.
