On June 11, 2020, British Vogue sparked a viral sensation on social media platforms like Instagram and TikTok with their July covers featuring ordinary people doing extraordinary work during the pandemic.
Among them were Narguis Horsford, a train driver; Rachel Millar, an NHS midwife; and Anisa Omar, a supermarket assistant.
The #VogueChallenge, which encourages readers to transform themselves into cover stars, has become a reminder that the fashion industry still has a long way to go in creating spaces for black talents, despite benefiting greatly from black culture.
For some, participating in the challenge was an opportunity to be a cover star, while for others, it was a chance to showcase their creativity and talent.
Creating Your Own Vogue Cover ¶
Here's a simple guide to create your own Vogue cover:
- Download a photo editor like Sketchbook, which is easy to use and offers a range of features.
- Open the editor and create two layers: one for your image and another for the Vogue cover template.
- Place the Vogue template on top of your image and use the Magic Wand tool to select the 'Vogue' wording, ensuring it doesn't get erased.
- Remove any visible space between the lettering and your featured image, and you're done!
Alternatively, you can use a website like PHO.TO, which allows you to upload your own photo and create a Vogue cover image with ease.
