La Liga's season is set to restart after a coronavirus-induced suspension, but the league's president, Javier Tebas, has warned that players could be forced into quarantine if they continue to breach health protocols.
According to reports, Barcelona's Nelson Semedo attended a gathering of over 20 people in Castelldefels, a beach resort just outside Barcelona, despite strict regulations in place to prevent the spread of the virus.
La Liga has established strict guidelines for matches, including allowing only around 270 people inside venues, testing players for the virus before games, and requiring them to wear masks and gloves and have their temperatures checked before entering the stadium.
However, the incidents involving Semedo and Sevilla players have raised concerns about the risk of new coronavirus infections, and Tebas has warned that if players continue to breach health protocols, the league may be forced to apply mandatory quarantining.
"If it continues, we will be forced to do something that we said we were not going to do, which is apply mandatory quarantining," Tebas said.
La Liga's intention is for next season to start on September 12, and the summer transfer window in Spain is likely to run from late July to early October.
