Published on June 11, 2020, a vocal MP from Gatundu South, Moses Kuria, has shed light on an alleged plan by Jubilee Party Secretary-General Raphael Tuju to save Kirinyaga County Governor Anne Waiguru from impeachment.
According to Kuria, Tuju is pressuring Senate Majority Chief Whip Irungu Kang'ata to form a special committee that would save Waiguru's face during her impeachment hearing.
“Dear Raphael Tuju, please stop piling pressure on Irungu Kang'ata to form a favourable committee to save Anne Waiguru. The young boy from Mugoiri will crack from the pressure. Precedence was set during Waititu’s case. It’s full plenary, not committee. Full Stop,” Kuria posted on his Facebook page.
Under the 2018 Bill Impeachment, the ouster of a Governor from office could entail the formation of a special committee under the House Speaker’s directive. However, Kuria argues that this provision does not apply in Waiguru's case, citing the precedent set during the impeachment of former Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu.
