On June 11, 2020, Kenya Open Golf Limited announced a financial aid package for 54 professional golfers who participated in the 2019/20 Safari Tour season.
The move aims to help golfers meet their financial commitments during the Covid-19 pandemic, when golf tournaments were suspended.
Kenya Open Golf Limited Chairman Peter Kanyago stated, 'Many of our professional golfers have been adversely affected by the current restrictions instituted to minimise the spread of the dreaded Covid-19.' The organization is providing a total of Sh1.3 million, drawn from entry and membership fees, to be shared among the 54 golfers.
Each golfer will receive Sh24,000, a gesture described by Professional Golfers of Kenya Captain John Wangai as timely and well thought out.
The Kenya Open Golf Limited will also consult with the Government of Kenya to find the safest way to commence the 2020/21 Safari Tour, which was initially scheduled to start in April.
