On June 11, 2020, Kenya's Treasury CS Ukur Yatani unveiled a budget that prioritized national security, allocating Sh168 billion to the sector.

The allocation, which reflects a Sh21 billion drop from the previous year, places national security ahead of health and water sanitation, two critical areas battling the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to Yatani, the funds will be used to strengthen security agencies, including the Defence and National Intelligence Service, by equipping them to increase their effectiveness and rapid response to incidents of crime.

Other key allocations include Sh3.4 billion for medical insurance, Sh2.2 billion for group personal insurance for the National Police and Prisons services, and Sh1 billion for the National Integrated Identity Management System (NIIMS).

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) will receive Sh3.1 billion, indicating the government's expectation for the agency to scale up its pursuit of individuals looting public funds.

Additionally, the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) will receive significant allocations to sustain the drive against corruption in Kenya.
