Published on June 11, 2020, the Tononoka Grounds in Mombasa County, a historical site and home to several football clubs, is set to undergo renovation.
The renovation comes after a meeting between the county government, Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Mombasa sub-branch, and football clubs that use the facility as their training and home ground.
Clubs represented at the meeting held at Mombasa County Stadium were Tononoka Rangers, Kaloleni Youth, Bantu Warriors, and Omax.
There were fears that the ground was in the process of being grabbed by a private developer, but the county government assured the football fraternity in Mombasa that the ground was in safe hands and would be renovated.
According to Alliy Goshi, the FKF sub-branch chairman, a contractor will be given the responsibilities of levelling the ground, planting of grass, sinking of boreholes, and erecting a perimeter fence.
