'I usually don’t check candidates’ CVs while hiring'

Published on June 11, 2020

Hetal Nathwani, a business development manager at Cytonn Investments, has defied conventional wisdom by achieving great success without formal education. She has pursued her passion for finance and investments through self-study, earning an Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) certificate and working towards a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) level three certification.

Nathwani's journey began when she realized that she couldn't travel to Nairobi to pursue her dream of becoming a doctor. Instead, she chose to study finance and investments from home, relying on online resources and research to guide her.

She believes that learning at home offers flexibility and satisfaction, allowing her to set her own pace and goals. Nathwani also emphasizes the importance of discipline and smart goal-setting in achieving success through self-study.

As a business development manager, Nathwani's role involves growing the business on different fronts, including global fundraising and strategizing on new business initiatives. She attributes her success to her ability to train and develop her team members, allowing her to move on to new challenges.

Nathwani's motivation comes from her faith, family, and children. She finds inspiration in her husband's perfectionism and her children's unconditional love. Outside of her job, Nathwani enjoys cooking, experiencing nature, and nurturing her spirituality.
